Fabulous Freezeout Lake

Last spring I joined a couple of girlfriends on a wonderful trip to Freezeout Lake in Montana. Along with hundreds of other "birdbrains" we experienced the peak of the Snow Goose and Tundra Swan migration - an unforgettable event - especially the sounds associated with it. Imagine tens of thousands of birds all lifting up in flight at once; the noise of cackling geese changes pitch and explodes as they take to the air, heading off to the surrounding grain fields to feed and gather strength for their long journey north to summer breeding grounds. We stayed in Choteau, a warm and friendly town with good food and fun shopping. Oh, and that last morning when the wind whipped the snow up into a blizzard some of us skipped the magic "lift off" hour and tried the hot tub instead - guess we aren't quite as hard core as some of those other "birdbrains"! But we'll be back to enjoy the sights, sounds and hospitality of Freezeout Lake and Choteau...
