Riding the Rails in Byway Country

I grew up in Oregon, where camping, hiking and horse-back riding are frequent activities and beautiful scenery is a part of the daily commute to work. I have recently discovered another relaxing way to enjoy Hells Canyon All-American Road country is on a scenic train. The Eagle Cap Excursion Train boards at the byway town of Elgin and travels into dramatic roadless canyons along the Grande Ronde and Wallowa Rivers in northeast Oregon. The views are wonderful and the car hosts create a friendly atmosphere amongst the passengers as well as the crew. We were served a delicious stew for lunch, and this trip being Halloween, there were some interesting characters sharing the ride!
