Creston Valley Wildlife Management Area

Creston Valley Wildlife Management Area

Over 280 species of birds, 57 species of mammals and 29 species of fish, reptiles and amphibians call the wetland of the Creston Valley Wildlife Management Area home.
The Creston Valley Wildlife Management Area (CVWMA) consists of 17,000 acres of wetland habitat, forming a valuable link in a chain of wetlands stretching from the Arctic Ocean to California. It is a designated wetland of international significance (Ramsar site) as well as a nationally Important Bird Area and Important Reptile and Amphibian Area.
The Area is a major destination for migrating tundra swans and greater white-fronted geese and a vast array of waterfowl. Birdwatchers will marvel at the 6 species of grebes and great blue herons, as well as the rare Forster’s terns – which breed no where else in B.C. – and perhaps the greatest osprey population in Canada.
The Wildlife Interpretation Centre, open May-Oct, is a great place to start your adventure. Naturalists are on hand to provide one-hour long guided canoe and walking tours. Check out the educational displays, hands-on science lab, gift shop and visitor services.
Easy, 24/7 access to over 32 kilometers of dyke trails and two viewing towers allows you a chance to view an amazing diversity of wildlife. Hiking, biking, bird watching, wildlife viewing, canoeing, kayaking and fishing are just some of the ways to enjoy the area. In the colder months, cross country skiing, skating and ice fishing will keep you busy.
