Sacajawea Interpretive, Cultural and Educational Center
The Center is located near the confluence of the Salmon River Scenic Byway, the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail and the Nez Perce National Historic Trail. It is dedicated to honoring and providing education about America's great historical heroine, Sacajawea -an Agai Dika Lemhi Shoshone and her role in the Corps of Discovery. Cradled in the Lemhi River Valley between the Salmon River and the Beaverhead Mountains, the 71-acre Center lies in the heart of Sacajawea's homeland and birthplace-just 2 miles from downtown Salmon Idaho. The Center's unique outdoor setting provides some of the best riparian wildlife habitat in the valley, while providing the traveler a peaceful spot to take in the scenic vistas of the Continental Divide. Visitor services include a unique visitor/interpretive center, gift shop, picnic tables and restrooms, interpretive trails and programs, a seasonal outdoor school, spacious parking area, dogwalk park, and a beautiful/bountiful community garden. The Center's facilities include an outdoor amphitheater, the Meriwether Theatre (seating 75 people seasonally), and the new Classroom/Community Center (to be competed 10/09), providing year-around programming opportunities to visitors and community alike.
