Yellowstone Gateway Museum

Discover the history of Park County through a variety of exhibits on display in our three-story 1906 schoolhouse on the National Register of Historic Places illustrating early peoples of the area including native cultures, the railroad industry’s role in westward expansion, and Livingston as the original gateway to Yellowstone National Park. Wild West history chronicles characters like Calamity Jane, Buffalo Bill Cody, and the Plummer Gang. Local settlers and businesses are portrayed with a large number of historic photos collected by local historians Bill and Doris Whithorn. An original blacksmith shop and one-room schoolhouse are open to the public. Our Mission Statement: “To collect, protect and educate concerning the geology, paleontology, archaeology and history of Park County, including Yellowstone and its surrounds for the benefit and enjoyment of the people.”
