Soda Springs
Oregon Trail travelers often stopped at the numerous hot and cold mineral springs in the vicinity of present-day Soda Springs, Idaho. The springs were naturally carbonated, giving Soda Springs its name. Many emigrant diarists drank from the springs, and some thought that the the soda water tasted good, while others found it unpleasant. One of the most notable springs was Steamboat Springs, where emigrants stopped for hot water and clothes washing. Today the Steamboat Springs are submerged under Alexander reservoir. Hooper Springs are north of the town. The Oregon Trail Country Club has some original Oregon Trail wagon ruts.
