City of Salmon
The Salmon River Scenic Byway connects to the Sacajawea Historic Byway in Salmon, at the US-93 junction with SH-28. Salmon is the largest city on the byway and sits in a grand valley surrounded by mountain peaks. The Beaverhead Mountains, part of the Bitterroot Mountains, loom to the north and form the Continental Divide. Salmon is the birthplace of America’s great historical heroine -- Sacajawea, an Agai Dika Lemhi Shoshone -- and gateway to world-class float trips on the Main Fork and Middle Fork of the Salmon River through the Frank Church Wilderness Area.
