Ernest Hemingway Memorial
The memorial is just a few miles up Sun Valley Road from downtown Ketchum, Idaho. The memorial is located about 1.5 miles from the Sun Valley Lodge -- along the trail that parallels Sun Valley Road -- and is a popular destination for walkers, cyclists, and cross-country skiers. The Hemingway memorial pays tribute to the author and his friends. The Nobel Prize-winning author first came to Idaho in 1939 and became the state's most famous resident, where he completed "For Whom the Bell Tolls." Hemingway was a passionate fly fisherman and spent the last years of his life in Ketchum. He died in 1961 and is buried along side his wife, Mary, in Ketchum Cemetery. Many people visit his burial place to connect with the writer's spirit. The memorial tells the story of the corridor as a creative inspiration and place of solace. There are many other Hemingway-related sites throughout the Wood River Valley -- as well as regular Hemingway birthday observations and other cultural events.
